Fees for the Public Good

Pro bono, work done “for the public good”, should not be confused with “pro gratis” or work done “for free”. When we ask lawyers to do “pro bono”, we are really just asking lawyers to do pro gratis, to give up their time and volunteer. Why should anyone expect lawyers to work for free. It is preposterous. Yet calls for lawyers to “do” pro bono and address the access to justice gap only seem to intensify every day.
